Industrial Systems Technology PROGRAM BACKGROUND
Northeast Alabama Community College established the Industrial
Systems Technology program at the request of local industry. Surveys
were sent to local industry leaders in an effort to determine what
industrial maintenance employees need to be able to do. Respondents
indicated a need for industrial maintenance training, but also a
need for welding and machining programs. Additional surveys specific
to welding and machining were subsequently deployed. Indeed, there
was a need for industrial maintenance, welding, and machining
programs.
Consequently, Northeast Alabama Community College applied to the
Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education to offer short term
certificates in Industrial Maintenance, Welding, and Machine Tool
Technology and started the process of applying for certificates and
Associate’s degrees. Due to some common components in each of these
fields, the college established the Industrial Systems Technology
Program comprising the five options.
